As part of our topic we had Jon Lambert in to talk with us about the planning and design side of creating a garden -

 Here are some of the things we learnt.
* Plans are basically like a map
*  When you plan look at the trees that are already growing in the garden and in the neighbours gardens
* You need to know where north is so that you can work out shade/light etc
* Start your plan in pencil
* Do a layout or rough plan
* with the big stuff like the big trees, paths, water features
* Label everything so that whoever reads it understands what it is
* Know how your plants grow- size etc
* Draw trees first then paths
* Use books etc to learn about plants
* Think about safety
* Think about ways to bring in butterflys/ bees/ lizards/wetas
* Make sure plan is clear
* Be creative
* Have fun!!!!!!
