We are designing and creating a new native area at our school. We asked Mr Hedley ( our client) What he would like the area to look/ be like. Here are some of his thoughts.

*A place where children can play

*Natural

*Interesting

*Seated area- maybe a table

*Open spaces for play

*Trees and plants which are hardy and can survive by themselves

*Lizard and weta gardens

*No trees bigger than those there

*Maybe an open tree hut

*Signs - plant names, welcome etc

*Poetry etc on rocks

*A feature gate to welcome etc

*Maybe paintings on the fence

*Bird feeders/ houses

*Native plants

Notes taken by Hannah B.

I wonder what ideas and designs we will come up with? I wonder what our garden will look like?

Thanks also to Gus Evans and Rob Cross for talking with us about the  local environment, best plants, soil type etc. We learnt a lot.

Some of our thoughts about art week:

Art week is just too awesome. I want to do it every day. Art week is the bomb because it is so fun.
Zayian

Art week was an explosion of fun. The class was a mess. I felt disappointed because it ended so soon.
George

Art week was like amazing because all the things we did was new to me. We did 4 season trees, black and white scribbles, wire sculptures and photo frames. I felt so happy.
Blair

This week we did art in our class. This is an extraordinary week. I'm excited to do los of art. Having the time of my life doing art.
Zane

Wow! Art week was extremely exciting. I enjoyed making wire sculptures. I liked putting the icky plaster strips on the wire.
Samuel

Art week is awesome. We painted sculptures. We did 4 seasons. We paint in different colours.
Axel

Art week was the bomb- art, art, art, art making tree sculptures, season trees and a scribble pattern. I loved doing the tree sculpture best because you can use any coloured wool to wrap the branches. I thought the tying was the hardest.
Luka

At art week I was weaving some trees. We put string around the branches. I enjoyed it because the trees looked beautiful.
Cole

Art week was well ....... excellent, fun, super duper, fabulous, awesome. It was a real knock out like a big sandwich.
Xavier

This week was ART week ! We got up to so much stuff. Like ..... supercalifragilisticexpedaliocious sculptures and super duper awesome paintings!
I've never experienced any of this stuff we did before.
Lily

The black and white scribble art was cool because I had never done it before.
Chanel

We did tree sculptures using wool. We needed to tie a knot with the wool. It was great. Art week was cool and a bit hard for me.
Summer

Art week was when we did 4 seasons art, wire wrapped in plaster and painted, photo frames. Branches looked like trees in a can and all wrapped up nice.
Art week was so much fun as there was lots of art and everyone had a big smile.

The walk

                                           The walk

Their sharp blades snag at my clothes,

I wish I was a brave, fearless and cunning fox who had an idea to free himself from this glut of catastrophe,

I sometimes think I'm suffering from someone elses curse,

I try to run but all I can do is advance slowly,

The pressure races to the top 24/7,

As if observing me a quiet whisper you'll never make it.

I can't move a muscle.

Not with all these thorns which have backfired against me.

Art week- Tree sculptures

ART WEEK

This week is Art week. We have been looking closely at sculpture. Our first 3d work of art was a tree weaving sculpture.

To do this you need- a can, a branch with great mini branches off it, wool ( lots of wool), plaster of paris, paper to decorate the can with and other bits and pieces.
1st- find a branch and cut it

2nd- get an empty can

3rd- mix up plaster with water and pour into can

4th- let dry

5th- start being creative with wool. Wind it around. Tip- remember to knot the wool or it will all fall apart

6th- continue until covered

7th- cover can

8th- add any other decorations you want

9th- put somewhere to enjoy looking at it.
